Comparison

I know many people who are doing life better than I am. They are more organized, better dressed, have fewer wrinkles, are more spiritual, are better hostesses, or have cleaner cars. I also know people who are struggling with life more than I am.

There will always be people I can look to if I want to feel superior. There will always be people I can look to if I want to feel inferior.

When I get caught up in the comparison game, looking to see what other people are doing, how well behaved their children are, or how I stack up in comparison, blinders are placed on my eyes and I can only see a small portion of life. My focus is limited to outward appearances and I lose sight of what is really important.

Focus on comparison will ALWAYS lead to a feeling of superiority or inferiority. God's view of us and his love for us have nothing to do with these outward measurements. We are dearly loved, chosen, accepted, forgiven, and adopted.

But not even our position in Christ is the most important thing, because (and brace yourselves):

Life is not all about us!

We must focus on who God is, his character, his holiness, his endless love and his sacrifice. Only then will the comparisons fade into the background where they belong.

Focus less on yourself and more on God and see what a difference it makes for your life.

"Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,

for I have put my trust in you.

Show me the way I should go,

for to you I lift up my soul." Psalm 143:8
